Rooted in Ethiopian jazz and influenced by London’s vibrant music scene, ZENA creates a distinctive sound where tradition meets fresh ideas. The duo consists of keyboardist and producer Yohan Kebede, also known from acclaimed band Kokoroko, and bassist and producer Menelik Mulugeta Claffey.

ZENA combines classic Ethio-jazz with alternative R&B, trip-hop, dub and psychedelic influences. The result is warm, soulful and evocative music, bringing together hypnotic rhythms, melodic basslines and electronic textures.

Inspired by Ethiopian musical legends such as Mulatu Astatke and Mahmoud Ahmed, ZENA carries that legacy forward while creating something entirely its own for a new generation.

On 4 March, ZENA comes to Nefertiti for a concert where Ethiopian musical traditions meet London’s contemporary jazz and soul scene.
